New Habits to Embrace as the Seasons Slow Down
As the days grow shorter and the pace of summer begins to ease, there’s an opportunity to reset and realign with ourselves. Seasonal transitions are nature’s gentle reminder to slow down, reflect, and create rhythms that support well-being. Here are a few grounding habits to start as the seasons shift:
1. Create a Morning Ritual
Instead of rushing into your day, carve out 10–15 minutes for quiet reflection. Whether that looks like journaling, stretching, sipping tea, or stepping outside for a breath of fresh air, this ritual can help set the tone for calmer, more intentional days.
2. Prioritize Movement that Feels Good
As the weather cools, our bodies crave warmth and grounding. Swap high-intensity routines for practices like yoga, walking, or light strength training—anything that keeps you active while honoring your energy levels.
That being said, I also understand if this kind of movement just doesn't work for your body. I need a good mixture of both- quiet yoga in the morning while I'm still waking up and then a high-intensity something later on in the day. The balance has proven to really help.
3. Nourish Your Skin with Natural Care
Seasonal changes—especially the shift into cooler, drier months—can take a toll on your skin. Supporting your skin with natural bath and body products helps maintain hydration and strengthens the skin’s protective barrier.
-
Exfoliation: Gentle sugar scrubs remove dead skin cells without harsh chemicals, allowing moisturizers to absorb more effectively. More on why exfoliation is a must in one of our recent blogs.
-
Moisturizing: Rich, plant-based hand salves and body lotions made with shea or cocoa butter deliver long-lasting hydration while replenishing skin with essential nutrients. Signs you should look at the ingredients and what to do.
-
Soaking: Mineral-rich salt soaks and botanical bath bombs don’t just relax the body—they also help soothe dryness, calm irritation, and promote circulation.
By choosing products free from synthetic fragrances, dyes, and harsh preservatives, you’re giving your skin the support it needs to stay resilient and nourished throughout the season.
4. Embrace Seasonal Foods
Cooking with seasonal ingredients not only connects you to the natural cycle but also supports your health. Think hearty soups, roasted vegetables, apples, and squash. Try making a weekly ritual of preparing one nourishing, seasonal meal.
5. Declutter & Cozy Up Your Space
When the pace slows, our environment becomes more important. Spend an afternoon clearing out items you no longer need, then add small touches—like a favorite blanket, a candle, or a plant—to make your space more comforting.
6. Practice Evening Unplugging
With longer nights, give yourself permission to wind down earlier. Dim the lights, put your phone away an hour before bed, and swap screens for a book, journaling, or meditation to improve rest. Trust me, I know this is hard and it's something I struggle with pretty often, but when I'm able to truly unplug by a certain time of night, it changes my quality of sleep (most of the time).
The transition into a slower season is an invitation to nurture yourself. Small habits, repeated consistently, can shift your daily rhythm and help you move into fall feeling calm, balanced, and refreshed.
